Queensland | Wet weather update for Friday 27 January as at midday
Queensland | 27 Jan 2012
The State Emergency Service (SES) continue to respond to requests for assistance across south east Queensland.
From midnight to midday the SES has received 257 jobs with most of these recorded for the Brisbane (70), South East (160) and North Coast (24) regions.
The majority of these jobs were for minor water inundation and roof damage as a result of the prolonged rainfall.
Severe weather warnings remain current across the State and residents are urged to monitor the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) website www.bom.gov.au closely to ensure they are prepared.
SES volunteers are ready to respond where required and if residents require storm or flood assistance they should call the SES hotline on 132 500. In a life threatening emergency always dial triple zero (000).
The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) is appealing for all Queenslanders to not enter flooded creeks or causeways by road or on foot.
Today, firefighters have responded to two cases where vehicles have reportedly attempted to cross floodwaters.
QFRS Swift Water Rescue technicians responded to Somerset Drive, Mudgeeraba after two vehicles became stranded in floodwaters around 7.15am. Two people were travelling inside one vehicle and one inside the other at the time. Fire crews were able to escort them out of the water on foot and they were uninjured.
In a separate incident, firefighters responded to reports a person was trapped inside their vehicle in rising floodwaters on Neurum Road, Mount Archer at Somerset around 9am. The person was able to escape from their vehicle prior to emergency crews arriving.
People are reminded “If it’s flooded, forget it.”
