A brand new competition ‘Hot Shots’ is being launched by Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) inviting budding young film makers to create a short safety film.
Judges will be looking for original takes on themes of fire safety, road safety, water safety and hoax calling in the form of a short film (up to three-minutes).
With the emphasis on creativity and imagination, entries can be filmed using any kind of recording equipment and all formats will be considered, including animation, drama, documentary or music video.
The competition is free to enter and open to anyone aged between 15 and 21, who lives in Kent or Medway. Shortlisted entrants stand the chance of winning a £250 cash prize and a further prize of £250 will be awarded to one of the participating schools, colleges or youth groups. Other cash prizes and Odeon cinema tickets will be awarded to runners-up.
Entries made be made by individuals, teams or organisations (not businesses) and full details of how to enter and competition rules can be found online at www.kfrshotshots.info.
The closing date for entries is 31 May 2012 and submissions will need to be uploaded to YouTube and posted online to Kent Fire and Rescue Service via a dedicated Face Book page.
Station Manager Neil Parr said: “We are keen to improve and diversify the way in which we target safety messages towards young people. As one of our core target groups with regard to our community safety work, we feel that getting young people to get involved will help towards making our work more effective.
“This project invites young people to think about safety in an innovative way, encouraging them to explore the key safety themes and use their creativity and ideas to communicate related safety messages in a way that will appeal to their peers.”
“Basically, if you are able to use a camera phone or other recording device, have access to YouTube and FaceBook and are willing to use a bit of imagination, you can put forward your ideas to us.”
