M4, Homebush | 11 Feb 2012

Police are continuing their inquiries into a serious single-vehicle crash at Homebush, in Sydney’s west, that’s left four people in hospital.

All westbound lanes of the M4 remain closed as officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit try to determine what caused the Ford Falcon to career off the motorway and flip just before 3.30am today (Sunday 12 February 2012).

Police from Burwood and Flemington Local Area Commands, NSW Ambulance Paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW personnel responded quickly to the crash, which occurred about 300m east of Homebush Bay Drive.

A fire in the vehicle’s engine bay was extinguished before it could spread to the cabin.

Three women and a man were released from the wreckage and taken to Westmead Hospital for emergency treatment of various injuries.  Their current conditions are unknown.

The M4 is closed westbound between Parramatta Road and Homebush Bay Drive. Diversions are in place.

Investigations are continuing and anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Auburn Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00.
