A 51-year-old man has been taken to hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the chest while hunting.
About 4.40pm today (Sunday 5 February 2012), police and other emergency services received reports that a man had suffered gunshot wounds following an incident at a property in Dalton, near Goulburn.
Officers attached to Goulburn Local Area Command attended and were told the ACT man, who was hunting on a property he owns, accidentally shot himself in the chest with a .22 rifle.
The man’s partner came to his aid and drove him into the Dalton township, where they were met by ambulance officers.
The man was then transported to a hospital in Canberra where he has undergone surgery and remains in a serious but stable condition.
