Charleville, St George, Augathella | 2 Feb 2012

In response to a request from the Murweh Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) the Queensland Fire Rescue and Service (QFRS) is deploying 16 Swift Water Rescue (SWR) technicians and first responder firefighters to Charleville, St George and Augathella this morning.

Four SWR technicians and four first responder firefighters will be stationed at Charleville while four SWR technicians will be based at St George. Four SWR technicians will also be going to Augathella.

Risks due to flooding have been identified by the Murweh LDMG and QFRS is providing resources to address these risks.

QFRS would like to remind residents in the flood affected areas that if it’s flooded, forget it.

People who enter floodwaters are not only putting their lives at risk, but the lives of their rescuers. Although firefighters are highly trained and skilled, swift water rescue is the most dangerous operation they are required to undertake.
