He lost his way after he left EMS and ended up affiliated  \t\twith a biker gang. He was murdered as part of a massacre conducted by  \t\trival gang members.<\/p>\n<p>They singled Jamie  \t\tout because he was a Jew and saved him for last so he could, presumably,  \t\tbe further tormented before they shot him at point blank range.<\/p>\n<p>They should have  \t\tsingled him out because he was a good streetmedic. He was.<\/p>\n<p>I still miss him.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote this about  \t\this death:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJamie Flanz was  \t\tmurdered two springs ago. His passing had no connection to the EMS world  \t\tother than the fact that his obvious state of death probably didn&#8217;t  \t\trequire a streetmedic to declare the absence of life signs.<\/p>\n<p>He was a good medic  \t\tand was a gentle, reassuring presence with many of our most senior  \t\tpatients. He put in many a shift at the last minute because I called and  \t\tasked for his help.<br \/>\nIt is the transient and intense nature of EMS that lifesavers often come  \t\tand go without much in the way of heralding their arrival or their  \t\tdeparture. They touch lives and impact universes and then they move on  \t\tto live the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>There are,  \t\tapparently, no guarantees on how long the rest of their lives will  \t\tbe.\u00a0Maybe some of them have an inkling of sunset rapidly approaching and  \t\tdecide to go out flaming while others simply pull the bedcovers up over  \t\ttheir heads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Be well.
